Goma residents endure temporary water shortages, despite city's proximity to lake Kivu
Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo's North Kivu province has been hit by a water shortage due to its adduction system reaching its limits as the city grows and as displaced people fleeing conflict considerably increase the number of its inhabitants. Residents wait for several hours at a public fountain to fill empty jerry cans and get access to drinking water for their families.
