Iowa The Wave

FILE - Atlanta Falcons defensive end and former University of Iowa player Adrian Clayborn, left, and Kid Captain Maddox Smith are honored on the field before an NCAA college football game between Iowa and Illinois in Iowa City, Iowa, Oct. 7, 2017. "The Wave" at Iowa home games, where fans salute children from the nearby hospital battling cancer and their families, has become college football's neatest new tradition. The University of Iowa announced that patients at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital will get to pick the songs that accompany the Hawkeye Wave, at which fans attending games at Iowa's Kinnick Stadium wave to patients at the adjacent hospital. Now at every Iowa home game this year, the hospital's Kid Captain — a Children's Hospital patient who is is picked to be honored at each Iowa football game — will help select a new song to accompany the Hawkeye Wave.
