Sir Barnes Wallis, noted aircraft designer and chief of the Aeronautical Research and Development Department of the British Aircraft Corporation (Weybridge) Ltd, takes a close view of a 300 series Kopp variable-speed drive after opening the Engineering Materials and Design international exhibition at Olympia, London. The machine is produced by Allspeeds Ltd, of Accrington, Lancashire. The exhibition covers material and design for products ranging from aircraft to domestic appliances.
