Nesrin from Damascus/Syria arrived in Germany in November 2015 alone with two of her four children. Her husband with their other two children hasn't been able to travel to Germany yet due to the lack of financial resources, in Berlin, Germany, on January 06, 2016. The illegal flight to Europe requires thousands of dollars (approx. 1000 dollar per person ' only for the dinghy boat crossing from Turkey to Greece). Nesrin has been attending university for one semester to become an English translator before she had to leave the war-torn country.
The former 'Tempelhof Airport' in Berlin which has been reconstructed by the Nazi government in 1930, serves as Germany's biggest shelter for refugees with currently over 2000 people housing in the four hangars of the building. According to construction plans, the Berlin municipality aims to extend shelter capacities on the 380 hectare airfield to be able to house up to 7000 refugees. Due to continuing differences that the multinational residents have been facing, the hangars are divided by ethnicities to reduce the intercultural conflicts.
