Miss Elsie A Walkerdine, who is retiring after 40 years as a domiciliary midwife, visits a family in Deptford, London to see baby Colin, at whose birth she attended on 26th November 1957. Miss Walkerdine also helped to deliver Colin's six-year-old sister Barbara Ann and their mother, Mrs Joyce Leary, aged 30, who are pictured here with grandmother Mrs North. Miss Walkerdine, who lives in Deptford and is well known in the district, has delivered nearly 4,000 babies.
