 10/09/1940 - ON THIS DAY IN 1940  Buckingham Palace was bombed by the Luftwaffe.  King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) touring bombed districts in North west London following Luftwaffe air raids, during World war II.  * 30/3/02:  The Queen Mother has died, Buckingham Palace announced.  She died peacefully in her sleep at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
