May Sutton Bundy, the first American to win the Women's Tennis Single's championship, pictured in action in 1907. She was born in Plymouth, Devon but moved with her parents to California, aged six. She won the title twice, continued playing tennis until she was 85 and died of cancer aged 88 in 1975.
