ARTS Council 1
PREMIUM --
File photo dated 15/03/2003 of poet Benjamin Zephaniah. The body responsible for setting up the first Edinburgh Festival, fighting enemy propaganda during the Second World War and promoting Brit art abroad will celebrate its 70th anniversary all this week. The British Council was established in 1934 to counter the spread of fascism in Europe and encourage cultural understanding. Zephaniah is hosting an evening of music and poetry at London's Theatre Royal in Stratford East and an international conference on cultural relations will also be held in the capital.
