INDUSTRY Women 1

PREMIUM --

Embargoed to 0001 Monday December 6
File photo dated 08/09/2003 of Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the TUC. Women are going to be 'short-changed' on pensions in their old age unless major reform of the system takes place, the TUC warned Monday December 6 2004. Research showed that women starting work today were likely to have as little money in retirement as their great-grandmothers. A combination of low pay, part-time work and jobs that did not offer pensions meant that women were being let down by the system, according to the union organisation. Barber said: 'Our pensions system was not designed with women in mind. It is out of date and condemns many millions of women to an uncertain and precarious retirement'. See PA story INDUSTRY Women.
