French paratroopers of the 1st company of the 8th RPIMa patrol the Tagab area in Afghanistan's Kapisa province, north-east of Kabul on August 27, 2008. The soldiers of the Groupement Tactique Interarmes (GTIA) Kapisa made available by the 8th Regiment de Parachutistes d'Infanterie de Marine (RPIMa) replaced American troops in the forward operating bases (FOB) of Nijrab and Tagab. Eight members of this unit were among the 10 French soldiers that died in an ambush east of Kabul on August 18, 2008. Most of the 3,000 French troops participating in the 40-nation International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) are in Kabul province, which includes Sarobi and the Kapisa province.
