Members of Led Zeppelin (l-r) Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Bonham after receiving their awards in the Melody Maker Pop Poll in London.
24/12/04: Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven is the best rock song of all time, according to a survey published. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple and Hotel California by The Eagles all made the top 10. But the 1971 Led Zeppelin classic polled over 70% of the vote in the survey by radio station Planet Rock. The song was never even released as a single but has been covered by everyone from Rolf Harris to Dolly Parton.
