The total eclipse of the moon was due to take place later tonight and is expected to be one of the most colourful and dramatic in recent years. *...but cloud threatens to spoil the heavenly show for many. The latest weather reports indicated that people in Northern Ireland, western Scotland and Cumbria should have the best viewing conditions with hardly a cloud in the sky, but people in the south west and along the south coast, from Kent to Cornwall, are unlikely to see much at all due to heavy cloud. 04/06/03 : A partially-eclipsed red moon seen adjacent to a Liver Bird atop the Liver Buildings in Liverpool. The city has been named as the European Capital of Culture. Best known for the Beatles and its two football clubs, it beat off competition from Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Newcastle and Oxford.
