Will you be my Valentine? Two rare black-cheeked lovebirds get beak-to-beak at Brent Lodge Park Animal Centre, Hanwell, West London. A total of eight of these lovebirds - the most threatened species of lovebird in the world - have been donated to the centre. * ... just before February 14th, as part of a managed breeding programme, set up by a network of zoos to support the reproduction of endangered species. The lovebirds, whose natural habitat is in southern Zambia and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, are on the verge of extinction. It is virtually impossible to tell the sex of the birds, but statistically unlikely all eight are the same gender, so the centre is very optimistic over breeding.
